I have been writing books and articles for more than 20 years. My speciality has been Welsh narrow gauge railways although I have also written about British trams and tramways and travelling post offices.

Most of my books and articles have been illustrated with my own photographs.

From 1974 until 2003 I was a member of the Festiniog Railway Magazine’s editorial team and was the magazine’s editor from 1990. I was a director of the Festiniog Railway Society between 1991 until 2003. In 2003 I was appointed the Festiniog Railway Company’s official photographer. Between 1995 and 1997 I was a member of the team that obtained the Welsh Highland Railway Transport & Works Order, that essential legal sanction to the WHR’s reconstruction.

My first book, Rails in Wales - the Cambrian Lines, was published in 1984. The most recent is An Illustrated History of the Shropshire & Montgomeryshire Light Railway, published in July 2008. Click here for a list.

I started a narrow gauge railway news column for the now-defunct Railway World in October 1991 and June 1995 transferred to Steam Railway,  regularly contributing features as well as the news column. Click here for a list.

I regularly give illustrated talks on various subjects. Click here for details.

I can undertake writing and photographic commissions. Use the form  to make contact.
